Luka Garza, the former Iowa Hawkeyes star and Wooden Award winner, joins “Start Your Day” to discuss making history as the first college athlete to auction his image and make an NFT selling for $40,000.      “It means a lot to me to be able to start something new,” the basketball player says. “Especially for college athletes and the future of name, image and likeness. If that continues to go the way it’s going then people will be able to monetize … and this is just one of the ways you can do that.”     Garza also exclusively announced his own NFT company LukaGarzaNFTgroup.io. The company has 3 new NFT Cards with added benefits such as photo opportunities, a signed pair of shoes or photo and much more. A part of the proceeds from the digital tokens will go to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.     The basketball star also talked about the NCAA and if college athletes should be paid outside of their scholarships.  

If you’ve been following Washington State Cougars athletics for a while, this will not surprise you one bit: the school is not bringing in a lot of money. The USA Today reported athletics brought in just over $71 million in the 2018-2019 fiscal year, nearly $11 million less than the next closest team, the Oregon State Beavers, and dead last in the Pac-12 Conference and of all the budgets in the Power Five.
